Afterthoughts 2

Dangerous cultural beliefs in the Library workplace include:

  • Faculty status is a sacred status.
  • Tenured faculty are in charge.
  • Non-tenure faculty should shut up.
  • Faculty members are better than staff members.

Each of these indicates a very narrow life-view and a need to control others that is counterproductive to a happy workplace.

Overload for the Awful

Library cannot seem to hire enough adjuncts to cover their workload. Of course, this is a huge problem since they also cannot keep the good faculty that they hire. This has resulted in a plea from Boobie to administration that certain tenured librarians get paid for working overload. This is a joke since they will, of course, not work any harder or any better but they will get the money…
