I find it interesting that it is so difficult to find someone at the University who actually cares about bad behavior of tenured faculty members. Administration is considered the “enemy” and not an avenue for redress, social equity is only concerned with discrimination issues, the union will only fight the administration (as long as they are not friends – which the union president admitted to me that they were!), and human resources is somewhere in the middle listening to whoever comes their way but not necessarily solving any problems.
Even though I have for all intents and purposes left and am just collecting on some of my sick days, I took some time to look into this situation and it is not a good one, especially for the mission of the university.

Weepy took Doc out for a farewell lunch and proceeded to cry throughout. She had such great hopes for us changing the environment of Library! That was what she meant when she said she was so happy that we came to Library. She thought that we were going to fix it for her. Mind you, she never once supported us in any department meeting discussion. She was quick to dissociate when it looked like we weren’t going along with the tenured faculty – crazy troublemakers that we are…

I let the faculty know I would not be returning next year – of course, I will not even be back next semester but whatever. The tenured faculty are in a feakin’ tizzy because I will not take the time to cooperate with their evaluation process for my reappointment that I told them I did not want. It is an interesting response from them – to insist on taking time that they insist they don’t have to tell me they don’t want me to return after I told them I did not wish to return. Childish and unprofessional – but totally in-character.
Blondie passed me as I entered the Library Classroom to teach and saw that as a perfect opportunity to communicate with me. How did she choose to do this? She immediately went to her office and left me a voicemail message. In this message she told me “You better cooperate or you will be sorry!” Way to communicate Blondie! Message received…. She obviously has an exaggerated belief in her own power over others – maybe that comes with tenure?
